What we store
- Your answers, the order you saw questions in, and how long each answer took.
- Your result.
- A random ID in a cookie, so you can finish a quiz and share your result. There's no name, email, or account.
- Whether you're on a phone, tablet, or computer. We don't store your IP address.
- The choices you make in the two optional boxes below, each time you start a quiz, so we can show which applied to which answers.
The optional questions
Some quizzes have two optional boxes on the start screen. Tick either one and the quiz adds a few extra questions. None of them change your quiz result.
- “Describe yourself” statements. These come from public-domain personality research (the IPIP item pool) and from our own draft statements about how people take in information and make decisions.
- A couple of questions about right now, such as who you're with and how stressed you feel. How people answer can depend on the moment, and these let us account for that.
If you tick neither box, you won't see these questions.
Research use
If you tick “help personality research”, your answers to the extra questions are pooled with other people's to build and check better, more accurate personality measures. If you untick it next time, answers you give from then on aren't used for research, even in a quiz you already have open in another tab. Answers you gave while it was ticked stay in the pool.
Your profile
If you tick “build my personality profile”, we keep a running estimate of your personality, worked out from your answers to the extra questions across quizzes. It's tied to the random ID in your cookie, so it only follows you on this browser. We're still testing the measures, so profiles aren't shown yet. When they are, you'll see ranges, not labels.
If you untick the box the next time you start a quiz, we delete any profile we've worked out for you and stop building one. Your answers themselves stay, as part of the quiz record above.
Shared results
Anyone with your result link can see your result (for example “Orzo”), but never your individual answers or your profile.
